The "Cultures In Contact" event is a chance for late 17th century re-enactors to demonstate the life and times of the later 17th century from an English, Dutch, French colonial or Native American standpoint. The event strives for a 1670s to 1680s look, but is flexible to accomodate most mid to late 17th century portrayals.
This event normally takes place at the Sunwatch Indian Village, and has been going on for the last three years, but due to budgetary constraints will not be able to be held at the Sunwatch site in 2010. There is strong hope of the event being returned to the Sunwatch Village for 2011, so we wanted to keep the momentum of the event alive, and as such the event has been moved to a Fort la Buse, Bellville OH (which is a private location) so the event will not have to skip a year. The change in location will cause the event to change from a public event for display to a more private event for the re-enactors to share and interact more, and hopefully do more training and education in order to hopefully grow the event for it's return to Sunwatch for 2011.
This is a perfect event for the experienced or new 17th century enthusiast, as we will be focusing on Dutch, English, French and Native American impressions from the time. Both camping and baracks type accommodations are available. You will need to bring your own bedding (blankets, sheets, pillows or whatever makes your comfortable) for the baracks accomodations. You will need all of your own camp gear in order to camp. Please keep in mind that while usually mild in early October, the weather can fluctuate between cold or warm temperatures, and you should pack and dress accordingly.
Please contact (by clicking on the link) with any detailed questions regarding the event or to register for the event. You will be required to complete this registration/waiver form and have it mailed and delivered to Michael Bagley prior to the event (please email Michael from the previous link for an address to mail the form to). Each participant will be required to complete a form in order to participate (please no "couple", family, or group forms).
Below is a lit of activities that may go on over the course of the weekend depending on the number of particpants and the consensus of those coming. All activities are tentative until further notice.
